Problems registering for Sky iD

Don't worry if you're having problems registering for Sky iD, our frequently asked questions should help you.

  1. I received an email saying someone wants to be a secondary on my account.
If you know the person who has attempted to register, you can approve them and let them enjoy a Sky account. If you don't recognise them, or don't wish to give them an account, decline the request. Please note that approving a request does not grant access to your billing information, or the right to manage other users' accounts. Those features remain the privilege of the Primary account.
  2. How do I upgrade my account?
If you're currently listed as a Secondary user, but you are the Sky subscriber in your household, you can upgrade the account:
    1. Sign into My Sky using your existing username and password.
    2. Follow the "Upgrade your account" link in the Billing Centre section.
    3. Select the "I am the bill payer and should be the Primary user" option and insert your personal information and viewing card or billing account details to upgrade your account.
  3. My account has been downgraded from Primary to a Secondary account.
If someone else in your household upgrades to a Primary account (as described above), you will receive an email telling you their name so you may check with them that your accounts are set up correctly. No-one can take over your primary account without providing two of the following pieces of information:
      – Primary account holder's username
      – Viewing card number
      – Last six digits of payment account
  4. I’m told that someone in my household already has Sky iD, which option should I choose?
You’re offered three options, and the one you choose will depend on who pays the bill in your home.

    1. If you are the subscriber then you can choose Primary status. You’ll need to provide us with some security information so we know it’s not someone else trying to acccess your billing account.

    2. If you don’t pay the bill, you can choose a Secondary account. This gives you access to services such as Remote Record, personalised TV Recommendations, Sky Player and Sky Games, but does not let you change the payment arrangements, view the Sky bill online or change other people's accounts. If you choose this option, we’ll contact the Primary account holder and ask them to authorise your account within 14 days. Your account can be used right away, but if the primary user doesn’t authorise your account it will be closed after two weeks.

    3. You already have an account in your name, you may have set this up yourself and forgot the details or this account was set up for you if you when you ordered Sky Broadband.
  5. Where can I find my viewing card number?
The simplest way is to remove your viewing card from the slot in your set top box and look for the nine-digit number printed on the back. If you’re currently watching or recording a programme, however, you can use your Sky remote control instead. If you’re using Sky+HD or Sky+, you can press pause before you do this, so you don’t miss a moment of what you’re watching. When you’re ready, press services, and select System Setup then System Details from the menus that appear. Your viewing card number will be displayed along with other details about your Sky box. When you’ve noted the number, press sky to return to normal viewing.
