It’s never too early to start your kids thinking about the Amazon. After all, the rainforest
helps protect us from global warming and supports one of the world’s most precious ecosystems,
bursting with breathlessly beautiful plants and animals. Plus, it’s home to around 30 million
people.
But it’s under terrible threat. It loses an area three times the size of a football field
every minute of every day to deforestation.
So, to inspire children to get involved with preserving the Amazon, Sky Rainforest Rescue, our
campaign to help save the rainforest, has put together a brilliant set of activities that kids of
all ages are sure to enjoy. They’re perfect for both the home and the classroom.
For instance, if you’re a teacher, you could set up an I Love Amazon Week at your
school.
I Love Amazon Week is an exciting initiative that encourages kids aged 7 – 11 years old to
explore the wonders of the rainforest. It’s a week of fun, themed activities and can be run at any
time of the year. Set it up as a standalone event or tie it to another environmentally themed one
like
Earth Hour or
World Environment Day. The choice is
yours.
We’ve put together a treasure trove of I Love Amazon Week resources to help you with your
event. All curriculum-based, they’ll help you with assemblies, lesson plans and other activities
you'll need for your class, the whole school and the surrounding community. And, they’re completely
free.
Register your interest in
I Love Amazon Week today.
Or, fire your kids’ creativity at home. Download and print a vivid scene featuring exotic
rainforest animals for your crayon-equipped little ones to colour in. For added delight, they can
also colour and cut out a jaguar or macaw mask, so they can pretend to be a rainforest creature for
the day.
And for grown-ups, there are instructions for how you can create shadow puppets of some of the
rainforest’s inhabitants. Captivate the children and surprise yourself with your new skill — even
add your rendition of animal noises for effect.
Plus, there’s a brain-teasing word search perfect for older children, as well as the jaguar
fact sheet brimming with fascinating facts about this sleek, elusive hunter.
Head to the Sky Rainforest Rescue website to see how you can help your kids discover the magic
of the rainforest.
