Take one food critic, the founder of a desserts empire, a handful of budding entrepreneurs and a
dash of business flair, add them to our autumn schedule and what have you made?
Cooks To Market, a new original, factual series coming to Sky Living HD this September. It
combines chef and food writer Gizzi Erskine with Gü Puddings founder James Averdieck to find
amateur cooks who think their specialty might have a chance in the mass market.
Each hour-long episode will see Erskine and Averdieck meet two pairs of hopefuls who’ll be given
£250 and a kitchen in which to prepare sizeable portions of their contending creations. The teams
will then compete to win hearts and minds – and make the highest profit – as they hit festivals,
markets and large events to sell as much as they can.
The successful pair then has a shot at the big time: a chance to pitch their product to a
line-up of industry movers and shakers like restaurant entrepreneur Sarah Willingham, as well as
executives from such companies as Waitrose, Harrods, EasyJet, EAT, Virgin Atlantic and
Might we see the birth of the next Innocent Smoothies or Ben and Jerry’s ice cream? There’s only
one way to find out.
