July 2012
It’s big congratulations to Bradley Wiggins, the first Briton to win the Tour de France. The
master Mod made his mark early in the tour outpacing and outracing the rest of the pack to secure
the coveted yellow jersey, onto which he held with self-assurance and confidence.
In fact, it’s best wishes to all the Team Sky cyclists, without whom Le Gentleman couldn’t have
been crowned king of the road.
Further salutes go out to Manx Missile Mark Cavendish, who won three stages to become the most
successful sprinter in the Tour’s history, as well as to Chris Froome for his selfless second place
finish and stage seven win, which was also nothing short of inspiring.
Established in 2010, Team Sky always targeted the Tour de France, with a goal to produce a
race-winning team by 2013. The team is also part of our commitment to encouraging cycling
nationwide, from elite level all the way to those of us who love nothing more than a safe, casual
ride through the local countryside.
The Tour de France 2012 might now be over, but there’s plenty of road race cycling to come this
summer. You can keep up to date by visiting the
Team Sky
website. And if you’re inspired to get cycling, don’t forget to check out the
Sky Ride
website to find out what events are happening near you this year.
