Did you know that there are three times more men than women who regularly cycle in the UK? Yet
one million women have said that they’d like to cycle more regularly.
Sky Ride is helping to encourage these would-be cyclists pedalling by supporting a new
initiative between the Breeze Network and the Association of Cycle Traders (ACT). Breeze Network is
a British Cycling project that aims to close the previously mentioned gender gap and encourage
women to cycle for fun. It is the largest project of its kind, with a target of helping 80,000
women to take up cycling for leisure.
Breeze has just begun working with ACT to promote independent, female-friendly bike shops. Their
‘Proud to Support the Breeze Network’ initiative helps women find their nearest female-friendly
cycling retailers. It recommends traders according to their willingness to offer useful and
straightforward advice and information to novices, as well as their broad range of ladies’ frame
bicycles and equipment for women who need or wish to cycle with their children.
For traders, it’s about more than simply doing the right thing; the target market is worth over
£14 million.
There are many ways to get involved with the Breeze Network. You could, for instance, go on an
organised Breeze Network cycle ride. You could even become a Breeze champion and organise rides for
keen new cyclists nearby.
Whatever your intentions, you can find out more by visiting the
Sky Ride/Breeze website.
