Frequently asked questions

  • Can I get Sky Broadband in my area?

Sky Broadband services will be available nationally. You can use our availability checker to confirm whether you can get Sky Broadband.

  • Will Sky be providing broadband through satellite?

Although Sky TV is delivered through satellite, the broadband service will be provided using telephone lines, not through satellite.

  • Do I need a landline?

You will need to have an Eircom compatible line to get any of the Sky Broadband and/or Sky Talk packages. Even if the line is inactive, we should be able to provide you with our broadband and talk services.

  • How long will it take for my services to go active?

It should take between 1 to 2 weeks for your broadband and/or talk services to go active from the time your order is placed. The actual time will depend on whether we are transferring an existing service, providing you with a new service or if we have to activate your line. We will send you a welcome letter confirming when your service will be active by.

  • When will I get my Sky Hub?

We will send your Sky Hub after your order has been successfully processed. You should receive it before your broadband service goes active.

  • How fast will my Sky Broadband be?

How fast your broadband will be depends on the network technology available in your location as well as how far you live from your local telephone exchange. To check what speed we think we can give you use our availability checker.

  • How will Sky Broadband usage policy affect me?

If you are on the Broadband Lite or Connect Lite package and you go over your usage allowance twice in a six month period, you will be automatically upgraded to the Broadband Unlimited or Connect Unlimited package. We will email you when you go over your allowance and if we are going to upgrade you. You may downgrade back to your previous package after one month if you have reduced your usage levels to within the allowance for that package. See the Usage Policies in the Sky Broadband and Talk Terms and Conditions for more details. There are no usage limits on the Unlimited package.

  • Can I keep my existing phone number?

Sky can help you keep your number if you are transferring your telephone service to Sky Talk.

  • Do I need to contact my current service provider?

If you are switching your services from anyone other than UPC, once you have placed your order with us (including giving us your UAN), we'll take care of the rest and will be in touch soon to complete your transfer.
