Help with Standard Sky box set up

  • If you've recently upgraded to Sky Multiroom and received a new standard Sky box, it’s easy to get started. You can download a copy of the manual issued with all new Sky boxes and follow a few easy steps to connect your Sky box to your TV set.

Your Sky box manual is packed with tips on using your box and enjoying Sky. If you need help setting up other devices such as a sound system, gaming consoles and DVD or blue ray players, follow the diagram on page 38 of the manual for a wiring guide and an overview of the basic setup.

    Microfilters and splitters

Although only small, microfilters and splitters have a big part to play in the correct set up of your Sky box and broadband within your home.

Don’t forget you’ll need to disconnect your Sky box from the mains before you connect it to, or disconnect it from, any other equipment.

    Microfilters and Splitters
    Key things to remember:

    1. You must connect a microfilter to every phone socket you use (Fig. 1)
    2. The microfilter must be the first thing connected to each phone socket you use (Fig. 2)
    3. If you need to connect more than one device to a single socket you'll need a splitter. Each splitter must be connected to a microfilter and connected into the socket marked Phone (Fig. 3)
    4. The phone cable must be connected to the phone line socket on the rear panel of each Sky box, this socket may be colour coded orange (Fig. 4). If you have a Sky+HD or SkyHD box, ensure your phone cable is not connected into your ethernet socket which iscolour coded green
    5. You must connect each Sky box, and any other devices that need a phone socket to the microfilter socket marked Phone
    6. You must connect your broadband equipment to the socket marked Modem
    7. If you're using an extension socket, check you only have a microfilter connected at one end of the extension cable and not at both ends
