If you've recently upgraded to Sky Multiroom and received a new standard Sky box, it’s easy to
get started. You can
download a
copy of the manual issued with all new Sky boxes and follow a few easy steps to connect your
Sky box to your TV set.
Your Sky box manual is packed with tips on using your box and enjoying Sky. If you need help
setting up other devices such as a sound system, gaming consoles and DVD or blue ray players,
follow the diagram on page 38 of the manual for a wiring guide and an overview of the basic setup.
Microfilters and splitters
Although only small, microfilters and splitters have a big part to play in the correct set up of
your Sky box and broadband within your home.
Don’t forget you’ll need to disconnect your Sky box from the mains before you connect it to,
or disconnect it from, any other equipment.
Key things to remember:
- You must connect a microfilter to every phone socket you use (Fig. 1)
- The microfilter must be the first thing connected to each phone socket you use (Fig. 2)
- If you need to connect more than one device to a single socket you'll need a splitter. Each
splitter must be connected to a microfilter and connected into the socket marked
Phone (Fig. 3)
- The phone cable must be connected to the phone line socket on the rear panel of each Sky box,
this socket may be colour coded orange (Fig. 4). If you have a Sky+HD or SkyHD box, ensure your
phone cable is not connected into your ethernet socket which iscolour coded green
- You must connect each Sky box, and any other devices that need a phone socket to the
microfilter socket marked
Phone
- You must connect your broadband equipment to the socket marked
Modem
- If you're using an extension socket, check you only have a microfilter connected at one end of
the extension cable and not at both ends
You’re in control with your Planner
You control what you watch on your Sky box by browsing your Planner using your Sky remote
control. Your Planner lets you see what’s on for the next seven days, order Sky Box Office movies,
sports and events, and use a range of interactive services.
Setting reminders for programmes
If you see an advert for a future programme and you see the green set reminder option, press the
green button before the end of the advert and follow the instructions onscreen. To be reminded
about a future programme shown in programme listings, simply highlight it and press select.
