How to use the Ring Back service

  • If you're calling a number that's engaged, our Ring Back service will keep trying the engaged number for up to forty five minutes. When the number is free your phone will ring so you don't have to keep redialling.

    Please note that ring back isn't available for the following types of calls:

    • International calls
    • Calls to licensed operator numbers who don't have a ring back agreement
    • Calls to Direct Dialling In (DDI) and Integrated Switched Digital Network (ISDN) numbers
    • Calls made with a BT charge card


    For instructions on how to use the ring back service have a read of the instructions below. 

    • Activate Ring Back

      Simply Press 5 on your phone keypad when you get an engaged tone, wait for the confirmation message and then hang up. If the number you are calling becomes available within forty five minutes, you will hear a special ring tone, just pick your handset.

      If the call does not become free within the forty five minutes re-dial the number once again pressing 5 on your keypad when you hear an engaged tone again.

    • Check that Ring Back is still active

      If you're waiting for a number to become free, and can't remember if you've activated Ring Back, simply dial *# 37# (press the star key, then the hash key, then three, then seven, then the hash key again).

    • Cancel Ring Back

      If you decide you don't want to make the call after all, you can cancel Ring Back by simply dialling #37# (press the hash key, then three, then seven, then the hash key again).
