We recommend using a Sky engineer to install Sky TV in your new home, as our engineers will
carry out the necessary safety checks and use the latest Sky approved cabling and parts. We require
professional equipment to assess the condition of a Sky dish and often find that a home move
installation involves more than simply connecting the box.
If you do want to install your box into existing fittings at the new property and you are
sure you will not encounter these
common self install complications,
please follow the steps below.
Self Installation Instructions
a) Download and print the relevant diagram depending on what Sky box you are installing:
b) Ensure TV, Sky set top box and all connected equipment is switched off at the mains supply.
c) If your box has a flap over the card, you can leave it safely in the box. If there is no
protective flap, take out your Sky viewing card and keep it somewhere safe and if you have more
than one box, ensure you note down which box each card relates to.
How to use the wiring recording template:
The purpose of the template is to help you correctly re-wire your Sky box to your TV and DVD/VCR
when in your new home. By following the steps below, you’ll be able to clearly see what cable needs
to connect where.
- Our TV and DVD/VCR drawings are basic, allowing you to draw on any additional connections as
appropriate. Only draw connections where you have cables attached, to keep it simple.
- Place a sticker on all cables and number each.
- On the template draw all the cable connections from your Sky set top box to your TV and other
connected equipment (DVD, VCR etc). Mark the cables number on your drawing to make re-connecting
easier.
d) Disconnect each of the cables in turn and pack them together with the Sky set top box and the
completed template to make things easier when you go to set it all up again.
e) Your Sky box is a fragile piece of equipment. Pack appropriately and mark as fragile.
f) Please refer to the manufacturers manuals/website for all other TV related electronic
equipment.
In your new home
g) At the new location set the TV, Sky set top box and all your other home entertainment
equipment in the positions you want them. Connect up all the cables in their appropriate
locations by referring to your completed wiring recording template.
h) Replace the Sky viewing card if you removed it, then switch on all the equipment at the
mains supply. If you encounter any set up issues, please refer to our
troubleshooting guide.
