    • Security and Privacy

      What is phishing?
Phishing is a form of online fraud. An email is sent to you, apparently from a genuine organisation such as your bank, asking you to verify your personal details or password. Remember that reputable organisations will never email asking you to provide account numbers or passwords.

      What is spam?
Spam is unsolicited junk email sent to large numbers of recipients. You can set up a filter for spam - see our section on managing your mail for more information.

Who do I contact to report misuse of my account?
If you have reason to believe your account has been compromised, or if you need to report other account abusers email us at abuse@sky.com.

      What is a virus?
A virus is a piece of code or software that can infect your computer and corrupt your files. Sky Email automatically scans all attachments you send and receive to make sure they aren't infected. If a virus is found in an attachment, our system will attempt to clean the file but if the virus can't be removed, you won't be able to download the message.

How can I protect my Sky Email account?
Always sign out when you've finished reading your mail, clear forms, passwords, cache and cookies in your browser on a regular basis. Never tell anyone your password, and avoid including your email address in any public website forums to cut down on spam.

I can’t use email after installing Personal Firewall Plus
      1. Right-click the McAfee icon on your screen. Select Personal Firewall.
      3. Click Internet Applications.
      4. Right-click the name of the email program you use (e.g. Outlook, Outlook Express or Eudora) and click Allow Full Access.

Someone claims to have received an email from me that I'm sure I didn't send
Some computer viruses can use your computer to send emails without you realising. Make sure your antivirus software is up to date and you regularly scan your computer. We recommend the anti-virus protection of McAfee Internet Security Suite that comes free for 12 months when you order Sky Broadband.

      I’m receiving spam emails
Sky Email has built-in spam filtering which protects you. If junk mail has appeared in your Sky Email Inbox, just move it to the Spam folder - this is just like clicking 'Report Spam' button and helps us to improve our spam filters.

Legitimate emails are being placed in my spam folder
If legitimate messages have gone into your Spam folder, you can move the message out of the Spam folder to the appropriate folder.
