Troubleshooting Sky Email

  • The help guides listed below should solve the most common issues affecting Sky Email. You'll find our most frequently asked questions below also.

    • I can’t use Sky Email in Internet Explorer 9

If you find you're having problems accessing your emails since upgrading to Internet Explorer 9 (IE9), please follow the steps below to fix this issue.

To open up Sky Email within Internet Explorer 9, you need to:

      1.    Open Internet Explorer.
      2.    Select Tools (top right of the page).
      3.    Then select Compatibility View settings,

      IE9 Step 1

when the Compatibility View settings box is displayed (as above).

      4.    In the Add This Website box type in Sky.com, then select add.
      5.    Make sure Include updated website lists from Microsoft and Display Intranet sites in Compatibility View boxes are selected (from the tick boxes at the bottom of the Compatibility View settings box).
      6.    Select close.

      IE9 Step 2

You should now be able to access Sky Webmail (see above).

It is also important to remember that to upgrade to IE9, you will need Windows 7 or Vista as your operating system. Windows XP is incompatible with IE9.

    • I'm having problems signing in to Sky Email

You may have forgotten your username or password. In which case, follow our instructions on what to do if you have forgotten your username and password.

    • Why are some of my attachments missing?

If you receive a message with an attachment icon but no attachment, then the attachment was probably stripped from the message by a corporate network, firewall or Internet security software.

To fix the problem, sign in to your account via a secure HTTPS session by changing the URL in your browser to https://mail.tools.sky.com before signing in to your account.

    • Why can't I find the message I'm looking for?

There are a number of reasons why Sky Email search might not find the email you're after. If you haven’t configured your POP Download settings to keep Sky Email's copy messages, all messages will be sent  to Trash when they're accessed with POP. To keep all messages in your inbox, select Keep Sky Email's Copy In the Inbox from the POP Download drop-down menu.

Sky Email doesn't search for messages in Spam and Trash – so be sure to include them, to do this select Show Search Options at the top of any Sky Email page, then select All & Spam & Trash from the Search drop down menu. Have you configured any features that could affect the message in question? Make sure you haven't created filters that would affect the message.

    • My messages don't seem to be arriving at their destination

Ask the recipient to check their spam, trash or junk mail folders, as some webmail providers may classify your messages as spam. They may have to lower their filters to receive your messages.

    • I'm having problems sending mail using Sky Email's POP feature

Please take a look at our help guide - Problems sending mail

    • I get an error message when I try to import my contacts

You may need to reformat the columns and/or headers in your Excel spreadsheet, and then save it as a .csv file. You can only import 3,000 contacts at a time and all characters must be in English.

    • I'm having POP problems because 'port 25 is blocked'

If your ISP blocks access to port 25, then you need to configure your mail server to use a non-standard port instead. To access Sky Email messages using your own mail client, please follow the instructions in our help guide.

    • Error Message: "Your browser's cookie functionality is turned off"

If you're using McAfee security software, you may need to adjust some of the settings to ensure that Sky Email functions properly.

      1. Open your McAfee Security, Privacy, or Firewall Software.
      2. Find the Cookie Preferences setting (usually in the Options menu).
      3. Set http://www.sky.com and also http://www.mysky.sky.com as allowed.
Clear your browser's cache and try signing into Sky Email again.

If you require help clearing the cache, please see our guide How do I clear my browser's cache?.

    • Error message “Send Error, you have reached a limit for sending mail”

As we offer a residential email service and wish to prevent mailbots from sending lots of spam mail using a Sky.com account, our Sky Email and Tools service is limited to sending a maximum of 100 emails per hour. If this limit is breached, you will see the "Send Error, you have reached a limit for sending mail. Learn More" error message.
