Using POP3 or IMAP with Sky Email

  • You can use Sky Email by signing in to the Sky Email and Tools homepage or using either POP3 (Post Office Protocol) or IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) to download messages and view them on your computer using an email program such as Microsoft Outlook Express.

    • Should I use POP3 or IMAP?

If you're trying to decide between using POP3 and using IMAP, we recommend you use IMAP with Sky Email. POP3 cab be prone to losing messages or downloading the same messages multiple times, but IMAP synchronises your mail clients and your web-based Sky Email more effectively.

Actions you perform when you're using Sky Email on the web, on email clients and mobile devices will instantly and automatically appear in Sky Email. IMAP is a better way of accessing your mail from more than one device, so if you check your email at work, on your mobile or on your computer at home, IMAP ensures that new mail is accessible and offers a more stable, consistent experience.

    • Enable POP3/IMAP on your Sky Email Account

      • Log into your Sky Email account
      • Click Mail Settings at the top of any Sky Email page
      • Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab in the orange Mail settings box
      • Depending on the protocol you have decided upon, select either Enable POP or Enable IMAP
      • Click Save Changes

If you see a Google confirmation or notification page after saving your changes, don't attempt to log in to Gmail. Close your browser, go to www.sky.com and click the email icon to sign in again. Any changes you’ve made to your account should have been applied.
