Using a Sky Calendar address

  • When you make a Sky Calendar public, others can view it using various applications including Sky Calendar, feed reader and products that support the iCal format (such as iCal for Mac) using the Calendar Address.

iCal, also known as iCalendar, is a standard internet calendar format that enables users to create and share electronic calendars across different computers and different programs.

As the format continues to grow in popularity, many companies have chosen to utilise the iCal standard. Apple's iCal, a personal calendar application that runs on the Mac OS X operating system, is one of many programs that currently use this format. Others include Mozilla Sunbird and Microsoft Outlook.

Your calendar's Private Address in XML or iCal format lets you view a read-only version of your calendar from other applications without signing in to Sky Calendar. Using this address, you can access your calendar from feed readers as well as products that support the iCal format (like iCal for Mac).

The address is a URL or web address for your calendar. Click the XML, ICAL, or HTML icon in Sky Calendar and a pop-up window with your calendar's address will appear.

You can change the amount of information available at your calendar's Public Address by following the Change Sharing Settings link.

Your calendar has a Public Address (or Calendar Address) and a Private Address (or Private Address). A Calendar Address is the Public Address for your calendar, which you can share with the public or with specific people. A Private Address is the private address for your calendar, which only you should know about.

If you see a Google confirmation or notification page after saving your changes, don't attempt to log in to Gmail. Close your browser, go to www.sky.com and click the email icon to sign in again. Any changes you’ve made to your account should have been applied.

How do I reset the Private Address of my calendar?
To reset the Private Address of your calendar:

    1. Under Calendars in the left column, click on the down-arrow button next to the appropriate calendar, then select Calendar Settings. (Alternatively, click on Manage Calendars under Calendars in the left column, then click on the name of the appropriate calendar.)
    2. In the Private Address section, click Reset Private URLs.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Click Save.

How do I disable my calendar’s public address (XML/ical/HTML feed)?

To disable your calendar's Public Address:

    1. Under Calendars in the left column, click on the down-arrow next to the calendar you'd prefer not to share with the public, then select Share This Calendar. (Alternatively, click on Manage Calendars, then select Share This Calendar.)
    2. Select Do Not Share With Everyone in the Share With Everyone Section.
    3. Delete users that you previously added from the Share With Specific People Section.
    4. Finally, when creating events, make sure that either Default or Private is selected under Options > Privacy.
    3. What’s a ‘Private Address’?

Your calendar's Private Address in XML or iCal format lets you view a read-only version of your calendar from other applications without signing in to Sky Calendar. Using this address, you can access your calendar from feed readers as well as products that support the iCal format (like iCal for Mac).

To obtain your calendar's Private Address:
    1. Under Calendars in the left column, click on the down-arrow next to the appropriate calendar, then select Calendar Settings. (Alternatively, click on Manage Calendars under Calendars in the left column, then click on the name of the appropriate calendar.)
    2. In the Private Address section, click on the XML, iCal, or HTML icon. A pop-up window with your calendar's private URL will appear.

Additionally, you can export your calendar information by clicking on the iCal button and clicking on the displayed URL. The Private Address is designed for your use only. If you want to let others view your calendar, you can share your calendar's Public Address (Calendar Address) with them. If you accidentally share your calendar's Private Address, click on the Reset Private URLs link to regenerate your calendar's Private Address.

Where can I find my calendar’s address (XML/iCal/HTML feed)?
    To find your calendar's address:

    1. Under Calendars in the left column, click on the down-arrow next to the appropriate calendar, then select Calendar Settings.
    2. In the Calendar Address or Private Address section, click on the XML, iCal, or HTML icon. A pop-up window with your calendar's URL will appear.
